The lyrics to Daybreak were penned on the ICU of a psychiatric hospital in Cardiff where songwriter Nick Fisk had a short spell getting over a relationship break up. Recording devices were not permitted on the ward, but nonetheless, a very rough recording of the song was recorded by a fellow patient. This was then sent to American producer, Kyle Dunawaywho Fisk found via the website Upwork.
Kyle was given the remit “to make it sound like The Stone Roses” who are a major influence on Fire Thief ( Stone Roses fans will be aware that the title of the song is borrowed from the Roses ), and he did indeed come up with the goods, producing a track that was pretty much how the end product turned out barring a few tweaks. In addition, Cardiff singer/songwriter, Nick Russell was brought in to re-record the vocal and add an extra guitar outro.
Songwriter Nick Fisk is also an author who is know for his Cardiff City-based book, ‘The Blues Are Back in Town’.
Vocalist on Daybreak Nick Russell also performs as part of his own band, Nick Russell and the Feathers.
